Another great story！！Forces to take a wife to retain his crown the elf king decides to enter onto a fake marriage。 He never expected he would fall in love with his wife。 This story is amazing is full of love and pain and does not disappoint。 Once I started reading I could not put the book down。

This second book in the Kings of Avalier series is the elf King Raife and his new indentured assistant Kailani’s story。 We met Raife briefly in the first book。 His whole family was murdered in front of him when he was 14， and his life has become all about protecting his people and taking down the human queen who is still trying to kill him。 Kailani is a half elf who has grown up under the queens rule with her human aunt。 Her aunt is terminally ill and Kailani takes on debt she can’t repay to get This second book in the Kings of Avalier series is the elf King Raife and his new indentured assistant Kailani’s story。 We met Raife briefly in the first book。 His whole family was murdered in front of him when he was 14， and his life has become all about protecting his people and taking down the human queen who is still trying to kill him。 Kailani is a half elf who has grown up under the queens rule with her human aunt。 Her aunt is terminally ill and Kailani takes on debt she can’t repay to get her medication。 This is how she ends up being sold into the elf court as a servant to pay off her debt。 She is well educated， though being cut off from her elf heritage means she has no idea about that side of herself and what it’s capable of。 Kailani is super patient and understanding。 I wouldn’t call her a doormat or anything， because she absolutely has fire and stands up for herself and what she believes in。 But she also buries a lot of her own pain for the king and the peoples benefit。 She really shines as a leader， has a great mind and cares so much for everyone。 Broken is definitely a great description for Raife， and quite understandably so。 Watching his family die of poisoning and then having to be terrified every time he ate because people keep putting poison in his food would completely do my head in too。 Though while his trauma is justified， his reticence and coldness kept me on edge。 His fierce protectiveness of his people and commitment to personally helping everyone he can was admirable。 He was still approachable and thoughtful， he just kept himself apart。 Which was not easy for Kailani。 This story was a battle in both an emotional sense， as well as the war against the Queen。 This is young adult fantasy romance at its finest。 It’s thoughtful， intelligent and touches on serious issues with mindfulness and care， making it a great read for any age。 。。。more

I am very much enjoying this series。 Learning more about the world and how each kingdom’s issues with the night king。 There is just enough of a taste of the elf king to make me excited for book 3。 Lani brings an interesting perspective having come from Nightfall into Achemere。 The action was well paced， but I wish we had seen more of Raife’s perspective to help with the romance angle。 Over all a great book that was a fast paced read！
